What Is All-on-X?

All-on-X is a full arch dental implant solution that uses a small number of strategically positioned implants, typically four to six, to support a complete set of fixed replacement teeth for an entire upper or lower jaw.

Unlike traditional dentures that rest on the gums and can slip or require adhesives, an All-on-X restoration is anchored directly to the jawbone. The result is a fixed, stable, natural-looking smile that functions like real teeth.

At Dentists @ Canning Vale, Dr Desmond Ng provides personalised All-on-X treatment plans using advanced 3D imaging to plan implant placement with precision, giving patients with significant tooth loss a reliable, long-term solution.

🧑‍⚕️ Who Is a Candidate for All-on-X?

  • Missing most or all teeth in an upper or lower arch
  • Multiple failing, severely damaged, or decayed teeth
  • Wearing full dentures and wanting a fixed, non-removable solution
  • Adequate jawbone to support implant placement (bone grafting may be required if not)
  • Generally good systemic health
  • Committed to ongoing dental maintenance and care

Benefits of All-on-X Dental Implants

🔒 Fixed & Secure

Your new teeth are permanently anchored to implants, they don’t slip, shift, or move during eating, speaking, or laughing.

🍽️ Eat What You Love

With a stable bite, patients can enjoy a far wider range of foods than is possible with conventional dentures.

👨‍🎤 Natural Appearance

Custom-designed to suit your facial features, skin tone, and smile, most people will not be able to tell they’re replacement teeth.

🦴 Jawbone Preservation

Implants stimulate the jawbone, helping to prevent the bone shrinkage and facial collapse that comes with long-term tooth loss.

🚫 No Adhesives

Because your restoration is anchored to implants, there are no denture adhesives, removable plates, or palate covers to deal with.

❤️ Renewed Confidence

A stable, complete smile changes how you feel in every social and professional situation, patients consistently report a major improvement in quality of life.

Your All-on-X Treatment Journey

1

Comprehensive Consultation & Imaging

We perform a detailed oral examination and capture digital X-rays and 3D CBCT scans to assess your jawbone volume, density, and overall oral health. This information drives every key treatment decision.

2

Personalised Treatment Planning

Dr Desmond Ng designs your implant plan, determining the number, position, and angulation of implants to maximise support for your new arch while working with your existing bone structure.

3

Implant Placement

Your implants are surgically placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia, with sedation options available. Any failing teeth requiring extraction are typically removed at the same appointment.

4

Temporary Teeth (Same Day)

In many cases, a temporary set of fixed teeth is attached to the implants the same day as surgery. You leave the practice with a full smile while the implants integrate with the bone over the coming months.

5

Final Restoration

Once osseointegration is complete, your permanent custom-made arch is fabricated and fitted, checked for fit, function, and aesthetics before being secured to your implants for the long term.

All-on-X vs Traditional Dentures

Traditional Dentures

Rests on gums

  • Can slip while eating and speaking
  • Requires adhesives for retention
  • Covers the palate, reduces taste sensation
  • Accelerates jawbone shrinkage over time
  • Needs regular adjustment as jaw shape changes
  • Removed nightly for cleaning

All-on-X Implant Restoration

Anchored to implants

  • Fixed and stable, no movement
  • No adhesives required
  • No palate coverage, full taste sensation
  • Implants preserve jawbone health
  • More stable long-term fit
  • Cleaned like natural teeth

🧼 Caring for Your All-on-X Restoration

  • Brush your restoration twice daily with a soft-bristled brush, treat it like natural teeth
  • Use a water flosser or interdental brushes to clean beneath the arch and around implant sites
  • Attend routine professional dental cleans, typically every 3–6 months
  • Keep all scheduled implant maintenance appointments with our team
  • Report any unusual looseness, discomfort, or changes in bite immediately
  • With proper care, your implants are designed to be a long-term solution

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does All-on-X treatment take from start to finish?

The total treatment timeline varies depending on your oral health and healing. In many cases, temporary fixed teeth are placed the same day as your implants. The final permanent restoration is typically fitted several months later once osseointegration is confirmed, usually 3–6 months after implant surgery. Dr Desmond Ng will outline your expected timeline during the consultation.

Is All-on-X painful?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, with sedation options available for patients who prefer them. Most patients report that post-operative discomfort is manageable and more comfortable than they anticipated. Our team will provide detailed aftercare guidance and prescribe appropriate pain relief where needed.

Will my All-on-X teeth look natural?

Yes. Your replacement arch is custom-designed to match your facial features, skin tone, and smile aesthetics. Modern dental prosthetic materials create a highly realistic result, the vast majority of patients find that others cannot tell they have implant-supported teeth.

What if I don’t have enough jawbone for implants?

Insufficient bone is common in patients who have experienced long-term tooth loss. In many cases this can be addressed with bone grafting prior to implant placement. One of the advantages of the All-on-X technique is that implants can often be angled to use available bone more efficiently, reducing or eliminating the need for grafting in some cases. Dr Desmond Ng will assess your bone levels with 3D imaging and advise on the best path forward.
