Restore Your Smile, Confidence and Quality of Life with Custom-Made Dentures

Losing teeth, whether gradually or all at once, affects more than just your appearance. It can change the way you eat, the way you speak, and how comfortable you feel in everyday social situations. At Dentists @ Canning Vale, we provide custom-made dentures designed to restore the look and function of your smile. Whether you're missing a few teeth or an entire arch, our team will work with you to find the most suitable solution for your needs, your lifestyle and your budget.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissue. They are custom-made to fit your mouth, match your natural colouring and restore everyday function. Modern dentures are significantly more comfortable and natural-looking than earlier generations. With the right fit and a short adjustment period, most patients are able to eat, speak and smile with confidence. Depending on your situation, dentures may replace:
  • A few missing teeth in one area
  • Multiple missing teeth across the arch
  • All teeth in the upper jaw
  • All teeth in the lower jaw
  • Both upper and lower arches

Types of Dentures Available at Dentists @ Canning Vale

Full Dentures

Full dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw (or both). They are custom-designed to restore the appearance of a complete smile and help with eating and speaking. There are two main types: Conventional full dentures are made after any remaining teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed. This process takes several months but results in a well-fitting appliance from the outset. Immediate dentures are made in advance and placed on the day remaining teeth are removed, so you're never without teeth during the healing period. Some adjustment or relining may be needed as the gums heal and change shape.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. They fill the gaps left by missing teeth and attach to existing teeth using clasps or a metal framework, helping to prevent remaining teeth from shifting. Partial dentures are a removable alternative to fixed bridges and may be a suitable option depending on the number and position of missing teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

For patients who find traditional dentures unstable or uncomfortable, implant-supported dentures offer a more secure alternative. The denture attaches to dental implants placed in the jawbone, providing significantly better retention and reducing movement during eating and speaking. Our team can discuss whether implant-supported dentures are a suitable option during your consultation.

Benefits of Custom-Made Dentures

Restore Appearance and Confidence

Missing teeth, and the bone loss that follows, can cause the face to appear sunken or aged. Dentures restore facial support and give you a natural-looking smile you can feel good about.

Improve Eating and Nutrition

Missing teeth make it difficult to chew a wide range of foods. Replacing them with well-fitting dentures helps restore comfortable chewing function and supports better nutrition.

Speak More Clearly

Gaps from missing teeth can affect speech. Dentures fill those gaps and help most patients speak more naturally and clearly.

Affordable Tooth Replacement

Dentures remain one of the most accessible tooth replacement options available, making them a practical choice for patients with multiple missing teeth.

Non-Surgical Solution

Unlike dental implants, dentures do not require surgery, making them a suitable option for patients who cannot or do not wish to undergo implant treatment.

Are Dentures Right for You?

Dentures may be a suitable option if you:
  • Are missing multiple teeth or all teeth in an arch
  • Are looking for a non-surgical tooth replacement solution
  • Want to restore your ability to eat and speak comfortably
  • Have been assessed as unsuitable for dental implants
  • Are seeking a more cost-effective alternative to implants or bridges
The best way to find out which option is right for you is through a consultation with our dental team. We'll assess your oral health, discuss your goals and outline all available options before recommending a treatment plan.

The Denture Process at Dentists @ Canning Vale

Initial Consultation

We begin with a thorough oral health assessment and a discussion about your concerns, goals and lifestyle. If any extractions are required, we'll factor recovery time into your treatment plan.

Impressions and Measurements

Precise impressions and measurements of your mouth are taken to ensure your dentures fit accurately and comfortably from the start.

Shade and Shape Selection

We'll work with you to select the tooth shade, shape and size that best suits your face and natural appearance.

Fitting Appointments

As your dentures are fabricated, you'll attend fitting appointments to trial the fit and appearance. Adjustments are made at this stage to achieve the best possible result before the final appliance is completed.

Ongoing Reviews

Your mouth changes over time, and dentures may need to be relined or adjusted periodically. We recommend regular check-ups to ensure your dentures continue to fit well and function correctly.

Adjusting to New Dentures

It's normal for new dentures to feel unfamiliar at first. Most patients find they adjust within a few weeks. During this period you may notice:
  • Some initial bulkiness or awareness in the mouth
  • Minor changes to speech that settle quickly
  • Slight soreness as the gums adapt to the new appliance
  • The need to relearn chewing patterns, particularly with harder foods
Our team will support you through this transition and make any necessary adjustments to improve comfort.

Caring for Your Dentures

Good denture care extends the life of your appliance and protects your oral health:
  • Remove and rinse dentures after eating to clear food particles
  • Brush dentures daily with a soft brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner, not regular toothpaste, which can scratch the surface
  • Soak dentures overnight in water or a denture-cleaning solution to keep them from drying out
  • Never use hot water, it can warp the denture base
  • Brush your gums, tongue and palate with a soft brush each morning before inserting dentures
  • Handle dentures over a folded towel or basin, they can break if dropped
  • See your dentist if dentures crack, chip or become loose, never attempt to repair or adjust them yourself

Dentures vs Dental Implants

Both options replace missing teeth, but they suit different patients and circumstances.

Dentures

  • Removable and non-surgical
  • Replace multiple or all missing teeth
  • Lower upfront cost
  • May require periodic adjustment or replacement

Dental Implants

  • Fixed in the mouth, no removal required
  • Preserve jawbone and prevent bone loss
  • Higher upfront investment with long-term durability
  • Require a surgical procedure and suitable bone volume
Some patients opt for implant-supported dentures, combining the coverage of dentures with the stability of implants. Our team can help you weigh the options during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do dentures last?
With good care, dentures can last many years. However, because the mouth changes shape over time, relining or replacement is usually needed every 5–8 years. Regular check-ups help us identify when adjustments are required.
Will my dentures look natural?
Modern dentures are carefully crafted to look natural. We select tooth shape, size and colour to complement your facial features and create a result that looks like your own teeth.
Can I sleep in my dentures?
We generally recommend removing dentures at night to give your gum tissue time to rest and to allow you to soak and clean the appliance properly. Your dentist will advise on the best practice for your situation.
Will dentures affect what I can eat?
Most patients can enjoy a varied diet with well-fitting dentures, though very hard, sticky or tough foods may require more care. As you adjust to your dentures, you'll find what works comfortably for you.
Does health insurance cover dentures?
Depending on your health fund and level of cover, partial benefits may apply. We recommend contacting your fund directly before treatment. Our team can provide an itemised treatment plan to assist.
