Personalised restorative care
Why Fillings Matter
Tooth decay doesn't stop on its own. Once bacteria break through enamel, the damage progresses, and what starts as a small cavity can become a cracked tooth, infection or extraction. A filling placed early is the simplest, most affordable way to save a tooth.
Stops Decay Spreading
Removes infected material and seals the tooth to prevent bacteria from advancing further.
Relieves Pain
Significantly reduces the sensitivity and aching caused by exposed dentine and nerve irritation.
Restores Function
Allows you to bite and chew comfortably without protecting the painful area.
Prevents Tooth Loss
Treating decay early avoids root canals, crowns and extractions down the track.
Natural Appearance
Tooth-coloured composite resin blends seamlessly with your existing teeth.
Long-Lasting Result
Modern composite fillings are durable and can last 7–10 years with good home care.
Types of Fillings We Offer
Composite Resin
Tooth-coloured material bonded to the tooth. The most common choice for visible teeth.
Glass Ionomer
Releases fluoride to help protect the tooth. Often used near the gumline or for children.
Amalgam (Silver)
Highly durable for back teeth. Less common now due to aesthetics, but very long-lasting.
What to Expect During Your Filling
Examination & X-Ray
We assess the extent of decay using visual inspection and digital X-rays to plan treatment.
Local Anaesthetic
We numb the area thoroughly, most patients feel nothing during the procedure.
Decay Removal
All decayed material is carefully removed, leaving a clean surface ready for restoration.
Filling Placement
The filling material is applied in layers and shaped to match your natural tooth contours.
Curing & Polishing
Composite fillings are hardened with a UV light and polished for a smooth, natural finish.
Bite Check
We check your bite is comfortable and make any adjustments needed before you leave.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it hurt to get a filling?
No, we use local anaesthetic to numb the tooth completely before starting. Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the process is.
How long does a filling take?
Most straightforward fillings take 30 to 60 minutes. Multiple fillings can often be done in the same appointment.
How long do fillings last?
Composite fillings typically last 7–10 years. Amalgam can last longer. Good oral hygiene and regular check-ups extend their lifespan significantly.
Is a tooth-coloured filling as strong as silver?
Modern composite resin is very strong and suitable for most teeth. For heavy-load back teeth, your dentist may discuss the best material for your situation.
Can I eat after a filling?
After the anaesthetic wears off (usually 2–3 hours), you can eat normally. Avoid very hard or sticky foods for the first 24 hours.
