Why Regular Professional Cleaning Matters
Even with excellent home care, plaque hardens into tartar within weeks, and only professional instruments can remove it. A professional clean every six to twelve months is one of the most effective and cost-efficient things you can do for your long-term dental health.
Prevents Gum Disease
Removes bacterial biofilm that causes gingivitis and periodontitis before it progresses.
Removes Surface Stains
Polishing lifts coffee, tea and food stains, leaving your teeth visibly brighter.
Fresher Breath
Removes bacteria responsible for persistent bad breath that brushing alone can't reach.
Strengthens Enamel
Fluoride treatment applied after cleaning helps remineralise and protect tooth enamel.
Early Problem Detection
Your dentist checks for early-stage decay, lesions and bite issues while they clean.
Prevents Costly Treatment
Catching problems early avoids fillings, root canals and extractions later on.
What Happens During Your Professional Clean
Oral Examination
We check your teeth, gums and soft tissues for any signs of decay or disease before starting.
Scaling
Using ultrasonic and hand scalers, we remove tartar and calculus from above and below the gumline.
Polishing
A gritty paste and rotary brush remove surface stains and smooth the tooth surface to slow future plaque buildup.
Fluoride Treatment
A fluoride gel or varnish is applied to strengthen enamel and protect against future decay.
Oral Health Review
Your dentist discusses findings and recommends a home care routine tailored to your needs.
Signs You May Be Due for a Clean
Bleeding Gums
Gums that bleed when brushing or flossing are an early warning sign of gum disease.
Persistent Bad Breath
Chronic halitosis often signals bacterial buildup that brushing alone won't resolve.
Visible Tartar
Yellow or brown deposits at the base of your teeth are hardened plaque, only we can remove it.
Tooth Sensitivity
New or worsening sensitivity to hot or cold may indicate gum recession or enamel erosion.
Over 12 Months
If it's been more than a year since your last clean, it's time to book an appointment.
Stained Teeth
Surface staining from coffee, tea or wine responds very well to a professional polish.
